Learning with Summer Berries
It’s berry season, and picking berries together is a fun summer tradition for many families. While the picking itself is already a great hands-on learning experience for little ones, we have some ways to keep the learning going once you bring your harvest home...plus some ideas for what to do with all that fruit.
Fine Motor Skills
Handling, counting, and sorting the berries are the perfect way for kids to work on dexterity and fine motor skills. Set them up in their Original Learning Tower and assign them the task of sorting out the best berries, placing them into bags to be frozen, or arranging them onto skewers for a healthy snack later.
Berry recipes involve some fun textures that your little one will love to dig into. These simple cherry hand pies are easy enough to involve kids, and they can have a hands-on experience by rolling out the pie crust, and pressing the edges together once the filling is inside.
Berry art is a thing! Give your little one a variety of berries and have them make funny fruit faces. Or, follow these directions for how to mash berries and use them to make paint!
